Godfried Toussaint was born in Belgium and grew up in Bolivia, Colombia and Brazil. He began his musical training with the classical guitar before discovering African percussion with David Thiau in Montreal in 1978. He has studied African percussion with Babatunde Olatunji in Vancouver and Latin Percussion with Pere Gomez in Barcelona.
