"If I were a medical man, I should

a holiday to any patient who considered his work important"
Bertrand Russell
Welcome to my Amateur
Pursuits
Page.
I had difficulty finding a name for this section of my homepage. First
of all Webster's dictionary defines a hobby as a pursuit
outside
ones's regular occupation for the purpose of relaxation. However, some
of my hobbies such as SCUBA diving and dancing are exhausting, not
relaxing.
So what about amateur
pursuits? Webster's gives three meanings for
amateur. One is a person lacking in experience and competence. Well,
since I am not modest, I
like to think I have both experience and competence in my hobbies. A
second
meaning of amateur is a person who is engaged in a pursuit as a pastime.
Well,
I never do anything to pass
the time. Time is too precious and there
is not enough of it. In fact most of the work we do in our regular
occupation
is, unfortunately, a pastime. Pass the time is the last thing on earth
I want to do. However, the third meaning of amateur is devotee
or
admirer.
Now here I can relate. I both admire the activities I call my hobbies
and devote myself to them. Below are
links to some of my most passionate amateur pursuits.
